Essay Winner

The kids that frequent Area Youth Ministry's Drop-In Center were recently asked to participate in an essay contest. The question? “ What does the Drop-In Center mean to you?”

Winner of essay, Latrice

First Place winner: Latrice, 15
Well it means a lot to me, it's a place were I could go and relax and meet new friends. I think it's a good thing to have a place in the ghetto were you could go to. To me it's a place to get young boys and girls off the street. Kids go there to play games, relax, make new friend, and to stay off the streets. Also, it's a place where adults could treat you with respect, not many adults I know talk to me the way the adults do at the drop in center.

Secondly, it's also a holy place. They're always telling you about god and how much he loves you. For those who don't go to church, well the drop-in center would be the spot to be at. I love the adults there because if you have a problem they see you throw. It's not a place where they would be playing crazy music, talking about your nor judging you.

The Drop-In Center do have it's up in downs. Like they do have fights or people talking about you. Well the adults would help out in those problems. They don't call the police they just talk to you and help you out the best way they know how. I feel safe there because when you first walk in there's a sign in sheet and there's always adults around. I also love the Drop-In Center because it's always something to eat. For those who have no food at home, they come in and it's a place where you could be yourself.

For those who have no roll-motols in their life or parents at home, The adults at the Drop-In center is always opent. They talk to you about no having sex if your parents haven't already told you. This is what the drop mean to me.

First Runner-up: Lawrence

The drop inn is like my second home. Why do I say that, because when ever I go there, if I have a problem I can talk to the staff.

The staff is always caring and they want whats best for you. The drop inn is fun, supportive, and holy. They teach us about God and how we should accept him. This place keeps me out of danger. So the drop basicaly means part of my life.

I wrote this to thank the drop for every thing they've done for me. I hope the drop is open in the future so my kids can come.

This place is history
