Demographics
of those served
AYM reaches out to inner-city teenagers, many of whom are in an oppressive state.
They seem to have a sense of hopelessness and no sense of the difference between
right and wrong. Because of their home lives, these teens have a great need for
stability, for consistency, and to know that someone cares. Most of the youth
demonstrate a lack of respect and discipline. AYM provides accountability, responsibility,
and encouragement to empower young people and give them a hope for their future.
In addition, AYM gives them positive exposure to society and teaches them about
life outside of the difficult world they know. Most importantly, AYM helps these
youth come to know, love, and depend on the Lord. AYM serves 12-18 year olds,
with the average being 15. Most of the young people served are African-American
and are from low-income, unstable homes. Their academic achievement falls between
average and below average.
